How To Choose Broadband Internet
Internet users usually change from the older dial up system to broadband internet in order to get speed of connectivity. Broadband internet can work at various speeds but they are all usually faster than the dial up system. Generally, broadband internet refers to a permanent connection at a speed of 256 Kbps or higher. Before shifting to broadband internet, however, one should know the various types of broadband internet connections available and also their relative advantages and disadvantages. There are two important benefits that a broadband internet offers. Firstly, one can stay connected to the internet and access it just by turning on the computer. One does not have to wait indefinitely for lines to be free – as in the case of dial up systems. Secondly, the costs of setting up a broadband internet may be higher than the cost of a traditional dial-up device, but on regular usage, it saves money because the pace of work increases, increasing business output, and also, the cost of installing a dedicated telephone line for the internet connection does not arise. Types of Broadband Internet Broadband Internet is installed in three major ways. 1) DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) This broadban internet technology works by using the phone lines to carry out digital signals directly, without the need of converting to analog signals. DSL offer higher data rates and allows you to connect anytime without using your phone line, making it available for incoming calls. There are different kinds of DSL, but ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is probably the most common for subscribers. 2) Cable Cable is another kind of broadband internet, which uses fiber networks to provide internet connections and can share the cable space with other services like television services. This sharing is done by diving the bandwidth for a particular neighborhood according to the needs of the users. The problem with broadband internet connection through cable is that some condominiums and buildings do not have cable installed. When this is the case, it sometimes involves working around building rule, legal issues, etc before the broadband internet connection can be provided. 3) Satellite Satellite is the third kind of broadband internet connection. This type of broadband internet connection is usually recommended as an alternative for DSL. However, satellite broadband internet costs higher because an antenna or a dish has to be installed, to receive data signals from the provider’s satellite. Regardless of what type of broadband internet one uses, one can really see the difference from dial-up connections, in terms of speed, reliability and performance once the computer is plugged on.
