DSL broadband is also similar to cable Internet service in respect of bandwidth utilization by the user. The amount of bandwidth available for a switch is shared by all users on a switch resulting in the DSL Broadband user getting a fraction of the bandwidth that he is promised and is paying for. Moreover the DSL broadband users may also see lower speeds at peak times as a result of such bandwidth split.

Cost of DSL Broadband

Initially, DSL broadband was too expensive to be accessible to the average consumer, simply because phone switch technology had not developed to the point where it was viable to purchase. However, by the late 1990s, with the change in technology, DSL prices started getting cheaper. Now, with further improvements of DSL technology, consumers can opt for higher bandwidth connections for less cost than before.

Compared to other broadband services, DSL broadband is economical and offers a wide range of prices linked to the need for speed of different users. Even today, DSL broadband technology is evolving and trying to match or beat the speeds offered by cable services. If one is looking for an inexpensive Internet service to get the first taste of broadband, or looking for an economical high-bandwidth service, DSL broadband is the foremost choice.
